Chiweenie (pronounced “chiweenie”) is my all time favorite dog. I know you’ve probably heard that. I’ve known that since my childhood. But the more I learn about this dog breed, the more I realize that she really is awesome. That’s why I took the time to write this post.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into the Chiweenie facts and fun stuff.
1. The Chiuweenie is the national dog of the Bahamas.
No, I didn’t make that up. In fact, when my husband read this bit, he thought it was hilarious.
2. Chiweenies are hypoallergenic.
The reason is simple. They were designed to be less than a pound in size and with hypoallergenic hair, the skin is a healthy barrier against dander, dirt, and dust. Just about any other dog breed would have hair to deal with.
Chiweenies are hypoallergenic, but they are still dogs. And just like other dogs, there are times when their hair will grow in patches.
3. Chiweenies do not shed a lot of hair.
According to their breeder’s standards, Chiweenies are supposed to shed up to 2.5 ounces of hair a month.
But remember, a pound of dog in dog weighs 4.5 pounds. This means that a full grown Chiweenie will shed between 5.5 and 6 pounds of hair in one month.
But what about the patches of hair? Remember, these dogs are also hypoallergenic. So this 2.5 ounces in a month number is not really based on a scientific measurement of the individual. Instead, the breeder assumes that all the patches that accumulate over time will add up to a normal monthly hair fall.
4. They make a great pet.
Yes, I know there are lots of other breeds that are designed to be great companions as well. There are German Shepherds, for example. The same can be said about Great Danes, Rottweilers, Labradors, and any other dog breed.
However, what makes a great pet, is not always a good business. You don’t want a Great Dane that barks a lot and has a short coat and a lot of hair. But you don’t want a Poodle that sheds a lot and is super cute. That’s why the Chiweenie is one of the most unique and special breeds out there.
5. They are smart and trainable.
This breed loves to please. That’s why the trainer should know that they like to work and that they are easily trainable. Plus, these are also pretty smart. They are one of the few breeds that can learn tricks, especially hand stands and other things like that.
6. They are adorable.
The Chiweenie is pretty cute. Not because they look like a human baby, but because they are pretty cute to look at. With their big, bright eyes and their soft, white skin, they are really cute. But even if they are still puppies, they become mature fast. Therefore, they will have their adult coat within a couple of months. In a way, they are the puppy that never grows up.
7. They are easy to maintain.
Just like any other breed, the Chiweenie is relatively easy to maintain. Although this breed is more prone to allergies than the other breeds, this is because they are prone to ear infections. But if you are looking for a breed that is prone to ear infections, the Chiweenie is the right breed for you.
8. They are healthy.
They are mostly healthy and they do not have any serious health problems. Because they are usually small, they do not develop many health problems like the larger dogs do. But they are relatively prone to hip dysplasia and other diseases that are more common in larger breeds.
9. They are fairly easy to train.
Since this is a relatively smaller breed, they are pretty easy to train. But that doesn’t mean that they don’t learn. A lot of dog owners like to train their dogs to do tricks. And the Chiweenie is pretty happy to please. But if the first thing they have to do is take a bath, they might feel a bit disappointed. Because they are very clean. But just because it’s a hard task for them doesn’t mean that they don’t try.
10. They do a lot of things.
Chiweenies are mostly the perfect pets. They love to do things with you and with each other. Because of the small size of this breed, it is a great dog to travel with. And of course, they are happy when they can just hang out with their owner. So they are great friends.
11. They are easy to care for.
Since this is a small breed, it can be easily maintained. They will not need much food and they are mostly fairly easy to care for. You will need to do it once or twice a day. But aside from that, they will not need a lot of care. Because they are mostly pretty small, they won’t be eating a lot. They will also do a lot of things. So you won’t have to spend much time with them. You will just have to make sure that you give them a clean place to rest.
Chiweenie is an adorable, lovable pet. But he also has a strong and loyal character. He is a great dog if you are looking for something that you can have along with you as you go to work or school. You will be spending much of the day with him. So you will want a dog that is easy to handle. And with these little Chiweenie breeds, you will have the best choice.
He is also good for the little ones in the family. The Chiweenie is actually good to teach kids a little bit of responsibility. Because it is small, it can teach kids a little bit about the importance of taking care of it. Since it is also easy to take care of, it can also teach the kids how to take care of their small dog. And most importantly, it can teach the kids to love their dog.
And finally, as you see, these little Chiweenie breeds are actually the best choice to have around. They are good for every situation. And they will make great companions. So if you want a cute dog, you have the best choice with this little Chiweenie breeds.
